Synopsis
This course is an intensive three hour course which focuses on the essentials on one of the five pillars of Islam; Zakat. Among the topics discussed in the course is the the-ological underpinnings of Zakat, the wisdom behind it, who Zakat is obligated on and how to calculate it. After three sessions (each one-hour long), it is aimed that attendees will competently be able to understand:
- The status of the individual who refuses to pay Zakah in this life and the next
- The practical wisdom behind the concept of Zakah
- Who Zakah is obligated upon according to the Shari’ah
- The conditions required for Zakah
- The difference between Zakat Al-Fitr and Zakat Al-Maal, and how to pay each
- How calculate Zakah (money and animals)
- Some of the modern issues associated with Zakah.
This course is for you, if
- You have interest in understanding one of the major pillars (and obligations) of Islam
- You have interest in Islamic monetary principles
