Canberra Masjid – closed until further notice

Published: 29 Rajab 1441 AH / 24 March 2020

Praise be to Allah.

Assalam’alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh our beloved brothers and sisters in Islam.

It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the closure of the Canberra Masjid until further notice. This is the first time in the 60 years of our beloved Canberra Masjid’s existence that its doors have been closed to its attendees. The decision is an unfortunate one and is based on circumstances beyond our control. We acknowledge that the decision is very hard for the regular attendees in particular to accept, and we seek their forgiveness and understanding.

We urge all brothers and sisters to not neglect their salah (prayers), and offer them in a jama’ah (congregation) whenever possible. Whilst the Masajid are closed, there are provisions and concessions in our religion praying Jumu’ah salah (Friday prayers) at home which we shall advise of later in the week following scholarly advice. UPDATE: https://isact.org.au/lecture/ruling-on-jumuah-prayers/

We also urge the brothers and sisters to keep safe and not be neglectful in their duties to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala in these times of hardship and calamity. It’s a time of patience and perseverance, and a test of our eeman (faith). We as Muslims believe that it is Allah ‘Azzawajal alone who sends the diseases as a punishment and a test, and it is He alone who can take them away.

This website will insha Allah soon start featuring more religious content as well as messages from the Imam, especially with the month of Sha’ban starting in a couple of days and with Ramadan just around the corner. Stay tuned here on isact.org.au! Please note that the sisters-only programs are already being run online. Furthermore, we would also be glad to accept any assistance in the possible redesign of the website to better host and display multimedia content.

The Executive Committee members will be available for any assistance insha Allah . May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala have mercy on us and forgive the sins of us Muslims. May He ‘Azzawajal grant us honour, rectify our state, and keep us safe and steadfast in our deen.

Jazakumullahu khayran.
